Implementing metatranscriptomics to unveil the mechanism of bioaugmentation adopted in a continuous anaerobic process treating cow manure

This study aimed to investigate the effect of bioaugmentation on microbial community and function in a continuous anaerobic process treating lignocellulosic cow manure. One reactor (Rb) received dosage for certain period (d100-d170) stopped afterward (d170-d220), while same applied control (Rc) except sterilized was introduced. Samples were taken day130, 170 220 from both reactors metatranscriptomic analysis. The results underlined promotive indigenous microorganisms regarding hydrolysis methanogenesis. Bioaugmentation contributed enrichment Clostridium, Cellvibrio, Cellulomonas, Bacillus, Fibrobacter, resulting enhanced cellulase activity (Rb: 0.917–1.081; Rc: 0.551–0.677). Moreover, brought Rb prosperity uncultured_ Bathyarchaeia, prominent archaeal group responsible improved methyl-coenzyme M reductase activity, thus accelerated Unique metabolic pathways (autotrophic carbon fixation methanogenesis) Bathyarchaeia broadened horizon its fundamental role as acetogens methanogens digestion.
